Pfizer's latest vaccine against the current variant of Covid-19 is expected to be available in Canada this fall, the company announced Tuesday.
In a news release, Pfizer Canada and BionTech said Health Canada has approved the LP.8.1 variant COVID-19 vaccine for individuals over six months.
The updated vaccine targets the Omicron Lp.8.1 variant of Covid-19.
The company said the vaccine will be available to most pharmacies nationwide in the fall, noting that states have different eligibility criteria for public vaccination programs.
State and territorial health officials will share details about the rollout.

Most Canadian provinces and regions have not requested Canadians for the Covid-19 vaccine, but Alberta has recently changed its own strategy and is requesting residents who want to book and pay it this year from their pockets.
The cost is not yet known.

The change took effect last week, but was first announced in June after the federal government took charge of the states that were responsible for purchasing Covid-19 vaccines on a daily basis as well as other vaccination programs.
Alberta also makes the vaccine available only through public health clinics, not through pharmacies.
Vaccination costs cover the costs of elderly people in nursing homes, elderly people receiving home care, people whose immune systems are violated, and people in social programs.
Pfizer said the vaccine approval by Health Canada is “based on cumulative evidence previously submitted by Pfizer and BioNTech,” including clinical, non-clinical and real-world data.
