Seafood lovers in the US have been warned about recalls surrounding the risk of potentially radioactive shrimp. No, it's not a character in a new superhero movie.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a warning Tuesday about a brand of frozen shrimp sold at several Walmart stores in the United States due to radioactive contamination in one shipment identified before entering the country.

However, Canadian authorities told Global News that there were no reports of affected products sold in Canada.
“The Food Inspection Agency Canada (CFIA) is aware of public consultations issued by the US (US) Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and advises the United States to provide services, sell and provide services to certain imported shrimp.
The US notice relates to certain frozen shrimp products sold by Indonesian company Pt Bahari Makmur Sejati.

The affected products were sold at Walmart stores in 13 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and West Virginia.
The US FDA has discovered high levels of maegium 137 – a radioisotope – in one shipment of shrimp that did not enter the US.
The notification said that “exposure to low levels of radiation” from radioactivity containment could cause “an increased risk of cancer due to damage to DNA within the body's living cells.”
