Health Canada has approved Moderna's new and updated Covid-19 vaccine. And for the first time, vaccines are “made in Canada.”
The company says making the vaccine available to domestic manufacturers and suppliers creates critical health resilience to “make sure Canada is not only ready, but ready.”
“With this approval, Canadians' mRNA covid-19 vaccine doses will be in Canada. That's an incredible milestone,” Modanya general manager Stephen Laos said in a statement sent in an email to Global News.
“This is important for Canadians because Covid has taught us that the virus doesn't respect borders, but our ability to respond can often be affected by them.”

Modanya has announced that federal regulators have approved the mRNA vaccine known as SpikeVax. This states that the pharmaceutical company is targeting the SARS-Cov-2 Lp.8.1 variant for fall vaccinations.
Modanya also says the latest vaccines are on track to make it in time for the upcoming vaccination season.

These vaccines will be delivered in Canada through a Cambridge, Ontario facility.
“This year, the pre-filled syringe Covid-19 vaccine dose for Canada will begin at a new mRNA production facility in Laval, Quebec, and be completed at a Philfinish partner in Cambridge, Ontario, and will be fully produced domestically,” Laos says.
“This end-to-end domestic supply chain will allow for faster delivery, greater independence and more agile response to evolving public health threats.”
