Florida will phase out all childhood vaccine mandates in the state, with Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis curtailing vaccine requirements and other health mandates, and fulfilling other health obligations during the Covid-19 pandemic.
DeSantis also announced on Wednesday the creation of a state-level “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) committee.
In the vaccine, state surgeon Dr. Joseph Radapop posted current requirements in schools and elsewhere as a “immoral” invasion of the rights of people adjacent to “slavery,” impeding the parents' ability to determine their child's health.
“People have the right to make their own decisions and make informed decisions,” said Radapop, who frequently clashed with healthcare facilities at a press conference in Balico, Florida, in the Tampa area. “They don't have the right to tell you what to put in your body. Take that from them.”
Radapop said the state health department could repeal its own rules due to some vaccine orders, but others would need action by the Florida Legislature.

He didn't specify a specific vaccine, but he repeated several times that the effort “finishes all of them.”
Florida will be the first state to eliminate so many vaccine orders, Ladapo added.
In Florida, vaccine mandates for child care facilities and public schools include shots of measles, chicken po, hepatitis B, diphtheria cell-cytosensory muscle (DTAP), polio and other diseases, according to the state health department's website.

Under DeSantis, Florida resisted imposing Covid-19 vaccines on school children, demanding “passports” in places where crowds, school closures and workers must get shots to keep their jobs.
“I don't think there's a different state that's going on as much as Florida. We want to go ahead of the curve,” the governor said.
The state's “Maha” committee will investigate such things, including allowing informed consent for medical issues, promoting safe and nutritious foods, enhancing parents' rights regarding medical decisions about children, and eliminating “medical orthodoxy that is not supported by data.” The committee will be chaired by Lt. Col. Jay Collins and First Lady Casey DeSantis of Florida.
“We're going to keep the government out of the way and we're going to drive it out of your life,” Collins said.
The committee's work will help inform the next session of a large “health-freedom package” to address the vaccine mandate required by state law and permanently limiting recent state Covid-19 decisions, Desantis said.
“There's going to be a wide range of packages,” the governor said.
