Review Week: Google loses major antitrust cases

Review week: google loses major antitrust cases

Welcome back to review week! There are a lot of things this week. Anti-trust lawsuits against Google and Meta. Grok remembers now. Bolt CEO Ryan Breslow wants to make his mark. And more, more. Have a great weekend!

That's over: Google violated antitrust laws on AD Tech Market, ending a two-year battle after a judge ruled and eight states filed complaints against the Big Tech giants. Reliefs include forcing Google to dissolve the advertising business, such as selling Google Ad Manager. “We've won half of this case, and we'll call on the other half,” said Lee-Anne Mulholland, Google's vice president of regulation.

Gone Surfing: Openai is reportedly in discussions to purchase Windsurf, a former Codeum. Before the news broke, Openai approached Anysphere. This creates another coding assistant, Cursor. These talks show how important it has become for ChatGpt makers to capture slices in the code generation market.

The tweet all started when defense technology company Theus tweeted that it had built a cheap drone for hackathons with high tech that clearly had the potential to fight drone ramp-stretched GPS jamming. The tweet went viral and the company quickly raised $4.3 million in seed funding in the 2024 cohort of Y Combinators. The US Special Forces also signed an early testing and development agreement.

Stand Meta: The government's anti-trust lawsuit against Meta began this week with a bang. Several things stood out in the testimony. Mark Zuckerberg once tried to make Facebook culturally relevant by proposing a strategy of “wiping everyone's graphs and starting again.” Also, around the time Meta noticed that Tiktok was affecting growth, it stopped reporting Facebook user numbers in its quarterly report.

New Trends in the Town: People use ChatGpt to know where they are shown in the photos. These image analysis features combine with the ability to search the model's web to create powerful location survey tools. Great, exactly what we wanted.

Grok Catches: Grok has a “memory” feature that allows bots to remember details from past conversations with users. Note that both ChatGpt and Gemini already have this feature on Grok.com and Grok iOS and Android apps in the US.

Winning Climate: Large tech companies are taking part in the race to see who can eliminate carbon pollution first. This week, Apple announced that it was on the way. Since 2015, the company said it has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by around 60%.

Back to it: After working at the helm at the Bolt, CEO Ryan Breslow announced his “one-click crypto and daily payments” solution this week in one “super app.”

oh? Nvidia said this week that the US government had been notified that a license was required to export H20 AI chips to China. Earlier in the week, I flagged it to spend hundreds of millions of dollars starting to produce some of these chips in the US, but in detail it was light.

Call it “DEV mode” now. Figma will discontinue using the term “Dev Mode” for new product features by sending out outages and waste to the unpopular NO-Code AI agent. Figma also has a product called Dev Mode, which created a trademark last year. Are there sufficient development modes to rotate?

Where in the world? Ripling filed a lawsuit against rival Deal alleging that the Deal paid one of its employees to spy on the ripples. Rippling was trying to provide a paper to Deel CEO Alex Bouaziz, but was unable to find him. It's even more complicated now. Bouaziz and his lawyer are in Dubai. It has a reputation as a safe haven for those who want to avoid extradition.

AI with AI:Notion was released this week. It released an AI-powered email client that connects to Gmail to organize emails and connects to Gmail to search across response drafts, schedule meetings and messages.

Lucid Gravity First Drive: “Clear gravity can be overdesigned at its best,” writes Abigail Bassett, who spins on an electric SUV. It is positioned to capture market share from other luxury EVs and internal combustion SUVs, including the Libian R1S, Cadillac Escalade IQ, BMW X7, and Audi Q8.

Ah, Nature: Do you need to be able to relax this weekend? Watch Great Moose's transition livestream, offering a 24-hour quiet scene of forests and rivers. And if you're lucky, you may get a glimpse of the mousse passing by. What's better than that?
