The Ministry of Defense said an explosion occurred at a Russian ammunition depot east of Moscow.
The explosion occurred on Tuesday at an ammunition warehouse at a defense facility in the western region of Vladimir. This site is considered to be an important ammunition storage site for the Russian military.
Russian troops have condemned the explosion of ammunition that exploded after a storage building started a fire due to a “violation of safety requirements.”
An emergency has been declared in the Kirchach district, with residents of nearby villages evacuating.
Both the Russian and Ukrainian media channels and Telegram accounts have posted videos and photos from the site, showing violent flames with meter high frames and mushroom clouds from the explosion.
In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Defense said: “(Tuesday) ammunition exploded as a result of a fire in the territory of military forces in the Vladimir region.
“The cause of the fire is a violation of safety requirements when operating explosive materials.”
He added that there were no casualties. A committee was established to investigate the case.
The site is located at Arsenal No. 51 of the major missile and artillery departments about 130 kilometers (80 miles) northeast of the Russian capital, local media reported.
Russian media reported that one person living in a village near the property witnessed shells from a warehouse lying in a neighbor's home. The Tass State News Agency reported that the shells did not explode and no one was in the house at the time.
The governor of Vladimir region said an explosion occurred in the district and details will be made public later.
Alexander Avdeyev also threatened journalists and residents who would be fined for sharing informal information about the blast.
