“I got sick a few weeks ago, so I went to the hospital, checked out and was diagnosed with a clear cellular renal cell carcinoma that actually metastasized into my lungs,” the Kryptonite singer shared.

He said it was “stage 4 and that's not really a good thing, but what do you know, we serve the mighty God and he can overcome anything.”

Clear cell kidney cancer is the most common type of kidney cancer, accounting for up to 80% of kidney cancers in Canada. Kidneys, according to Cancer Canada, are more common in men than in women, and usually occur at age 55.

The Canadian Cancer Society describes it as a cancer (malignant) tumor that begins in the inner layer of the kidney tubules. This is the small structure of the kidneys that filter blood and produce urine. Treatment of clear cell renal cancer includes surgery, immunotherapy, and other targeted therapies, such as radiation.

In 2020, 2,904 cases of kidney cancer were diagnosed in Ontario, making it the 10th most common cancer. Kidney cancer, which has 669 deaths per year, is the 14th major cause of cancer death, according to Ontario Cancer.

They also state that people diagnosed with kidney cancer are 77.2% likely to survive five years after diagnosis, just like similar people in the general population.
