Some radon gas detectors sold on Amazon may not accurately measure gas levels, putting users at risk, Health Canada warns.
On Wednesday, Health Canada issued a recall of radon gas detectors sold online, including the Boyd Gresham “Tool Home” Radon Detector and the Interesting Kitchen Home Radon Detector.
The health agency said it found that the Radiation Protection Agency tested the devices and measured them as “inaccurate radon levels and likely to pose a risk to human health and safety.”
The product is a battery-powered radon meter advertised for long-term and short-term home monitoring. All products were sold on Amazon, but Health Canada said it could also be sold on other websites. For more information about the product, click here.
If you have these radon detectors in your home, Health Canada recommends that you stop using them immediately and dispose of them in accordance with local e-waste guidelines.
Amazon reports that 46 units of the Funny Kitchen Home Radon Detector were on sale in Canada from November 2021 to July 2024, and two units of the Boyd Gresham 'Toolhome' Radon Detector were on sale in June 2024.

You can't see, smell or taste the radon, but it can be easily measured with a detector.
However, Canadians must only purchase electronic radon monitors that have passed performance tests by the National Radon Competency Program, a Canadian radon accredited program recognized by Health Canada.
