In two rats, Shikathure contraceptives have been recalled by the manufacturer after receiving a complaint that they contain additional placebo pills.
Teva Canada Ltd. said it received a complaint that if there is only one row of white tablets, the package contains an extra row of placebo.
“Using placebo pills instead of active (pink) pills can reduce the effectiveness of the product and lead to unintended pregnancy,” said a recall notice posted by Health Canada.
Seath Rail pills are packaged in dispensers with a supply of 13 weeks or 91 days, each split into three blister cards in their own trays.
The first two trays each have 28 active pills, while the third tray has 35 pills. 28 pink pills and 7 white placebo pills.
However, the two lots in question have an extra row of white placebo pills in the second tray.

The number of lots that have been recalled is 100059661, with an expiration date of January 31, 2026, and an expiration date of September 30, 2026.

According to a Health Canada recall notice, seasonal records should be filmed daily unless the person who prescribed the medication gives them otherwise.
The instructions that come with the product state that it is important to take tablets in the appropriate order to prevent pregnancy, and taking placebos in order can lead to unexpected pregnancy and other side effects such as discovery and irregular bleeding.
People who use pills are also advised to check the package. If the first two trays contain placebos, don't take them and don't return them to the pharmacy for alternatives or alternative products.
“If you are unable to access the pharmacy immediately, please contact your pharmacist to take the next active (pink) pill in the appropriate order, as stated in the instructions, until you can get a replacement or replacement.”
Those who have taken a placebo in place of the active pill from one or two trays, or if they are unsure, they should use alternative methods of non-hormonal backup contraception such as a condom and consult a healthcare professional.
