The days of Dr. Teresa Tam as Canada's top doctor are approaching the end of next week, according to the Canadian Public Health Agency.
TAM has been Canada's Chief Health Officer since June 2017. PHAC said he would leave his role once the mandate ends on June 20th.
With training as a pediatric infectious disease doctor, TAM became famous during the Covid-19 pandemic and provided guidance to Canadians on how to protect themselves from illness.

The new public health official has not yet been named, but the job was posted to apply earlier this year.

TAM has been with the federal public health team since 1998 when measles was first eliminated, and told the Canadian media he is concerned that the virus has returned.

Tam said he is confident that the state can stop the domestic infection again through vaccinations.
She plans to think about new opportunities following the end of her time in the role, adding that she plans to not only spend more time with her family, but also return to her passion, such as playing music and running long distances.
