Data cybersecurity company Rubrik announced its intention to acquire Prekivaze on Wednesday. Predibase is a venture-backed startup that helps businesses train and fine-tune open source AI models and customize them to their needs. Rubrik is the latest in acquisitions with the goal of promoting the adoption of enterprise AI agents.
CNBC reported that the transaction ranges between $100 million and $500 million, but the terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. Rubrik declined to comment on the size of the transaction.
Predibase was founded in 2021 by Devvret Rishi, the current CEO of Piero Molino, the current Chief Science Officer. The company raises more than $28 million in VC money from investors such as Felicis, Greylock and Sancus Ventures.
According to a press release, Predibase integration allows Rubrik users to accelerate AI agents in their buildings through Amazon Bedrock, Azure Openai and Google Agentspace.
“When[Predibase]features are paired with a secure data platform like Rubrik, transformative and reliable data power ensures responsible and impactful AI,” wrote Bipul Sinha, co-founder and CEO of Rubrik, in a blog post about the transaction. “Just Rubrik simplifies access to protected data for AI secured data, Predibase solves performance and cost issues with deploying large language models for agents and other AI applications.”
Rubrik is just one of the growth lists of companies making acquisitions to strengthen their technology stack to create AI agents.
Salesforce acquired data management company Informatica for $8 billion in May. Snowflake acquired crunch data in early June to boost its AI agent product, and won Raito a few days later for similar reasons.
Rubrik was founded in 2014 and attracted over $1.6 billion in venture capital from companies such as Khosla Ventures, IVP and Lightspeed Venture Partners before it was released in April 2024.
