    Officials say 72 people, primarily from Alberta, have become ill after eating salami due to potential salmonella contamination.

    Canada's Public Health Service announced the latest notification on Wednesday regarding the outbreak of salmonella infections related to rare brand genoasalami weet, rare brand genoasalami hot and bonus brand mild genoasalami salami.

    The Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalled products from Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba on June 10th.

    Of the cases, 57 were in Alberta, 14 in Ontario and one in Manitoba. Seven people have been hospitalized since the recall was issued.

    The federal health agency said most people fell ill from mid-April to mid-June after eating salami in prepared sandwiches or purchasing them from the deli counter.

    Canada's public health agency issued the latest notification on Wednesday regarding diseases related to rare brand genoasalami weet, rare brand genoasalami hot and Bona brand mild genoasalami salami.     Salmonella is a foodborne bacteria disease that can spread a few days or weeks after a person is infected, even if they are not present.

    It can lead to severe and potentially fatal infections, especially for children, pregnant people, elderly people, and people with weak immune systems.

    Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, convulsions, and diarrhea.
