In August, Timeout released an annual ranking of the world's best cities, including top cities in food, culture and nightlife. According to them, the first year included the 10 best cities that Gen Z lives in.
A survey of over 18,500 people across all ages was filtered to extract responses from people born between 1997 and 2012, ranking the best cities for Gen Z to live in.
“The fact that our readers appreciated these cities so highly around the world is really exciting,” says Rossilynne Culgan, who should be doing editors in New York, telling CNBC to Make. “It's exciting to know that there are these places that readers really love and feel a lot of passion. It creates a roadmap to places you'll likely add to your own bucket list.”
Of the top 10 cities, only one ranked New York City in the US.
According to a timeout survey, Big Apple came in fourth, receiving high praise for its eating out options and culture, including walking, nightlife, food scene, art, live music, performances and shows. Meanwhile, only 46% of Gen Z respondents said it was an affordable place to live.
“I think New York needs to keep doing what it's doing. According to Gen Z, it's a very exciting place to live. I have to fully agree with them. It's really special to be able to be in a place where you have that excitement, where you have a culture, and being able to be out and enjoy whenever you're out and about, and I think it's really unique to New York,” says Culgan.
