Donald Glover is sharing details about his recent health scare that forced him to cancel last year's Childish Gambino tour.
In October 2024, Glover announced that he had been diagnosed with a condition that required surgery, but did not elaborate on the condition.
Glover, who goes by the stage name Childish Gambino, said Saturday night that during a performance doctors told him he was suffering from a stroke.
The 42-year-old rapper shared this information on stage at Tyler, the Creator's Camp Frog Gnaw Festival in Los Angeles.
“You all voted for the 'Where Was I' monologue,” Glover said. “I had a really bad headache in Louisiana, but I went on the show anyway. I couldn't see very well, so when I went to Houston, I went to the hospital and the doctor said, 'You're having a stroke.'
“And my first thought was, 'Oh, I'm still imitating Jamie Foxx.' That's really the second thing. My first thought was, 'I'm letting everyone down,'” Glover said. “I know it's not true, but I broke my leg. I promised myself I would go to Ireland, but I haven't been yet.”
The Atlanta actor revealed that doctors “discovered there was a hole” in his heart and he had to undergo two surgeries.

“They say everyone has two lives, but the second life begins when you realize you have one life,” Glover told the crowd. “Guys, you only live once. To be honest, the life I've lived with you has been a very happy one.”
“My favorite words from my wife: 'If this is what life tastes like, give me another drink as soon as it's over,'” Glover told the crowd.
“Life should be lived the way you want it to be, because life can only get better,” the Community actor said.

Back in 2024, Glover canceled over 30 scheduled dates in North America, the UK, and Europe.
“The road to recovery is something I need to take seriously,” Glover wrote at the time. “All I want is to bring this show to my fans and perform. Until then, I appreciate your love, privacy, and support.”
According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, nine out of 10 Canadians have at least one risk factor for stroke or heart disease.
Based on the latest analysis from a study funded by Heart and Stroke, approximately 108,707 strokes currently occur in Canada each year.
The most common signs of stroke can be found with the acronym FAST.
This includes symptoms such as a drooping of the face, weakness in the arms, and difficulty speaking. These are all indicators that it's time to call 911 immediately.
Almost 80% of premature strokes and heart disease are preventable through healthy behaviors such as eating a healthy diet, being active, and not smoking.
