'home improvement' star zachary ty bryan arrested for second time

Home Improvement star Zachery Ty Bryan has been arrested for the sixth time in five years for violating his domestic violence probation.

Brian, 44, and his girlfriend, Johnny Faye Cartwright, 32, were taken into police custody in Eugene, Oregon, on Nov. 29, according to prison records reviewed by Global News.

The actor is currently being held without bail at the Lane County Jail and is scheduled to be released on Dec. 3, according to jail records.

Brian was taken into custody for a probation violation stemming from a previous domestic violence conviction, while Cartwright faces multiple charges, including one count of DUI, three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of attempted first-degree assault.

It's just the latest in a series of legal troubles for the former child star, who co-starred with Tim Allen and Jonathan Taylor Thomas in the 1990s hit comedy Home Improvement.

In a police report obtained by People magazine on January 6, Cartwright “stated that she had been assaulted” by Brian, and the arresting officer said the two “live together and have children in common.”

Cartwright claimed that Brian “choked her and punched her in the face multiple times.”

Police said the woman had “obvious injuries” to her face, including bruising and swelling.

Bryan told officers he and Cartwright “got into an argument about her drinking,” and when he tried to “take the bottle from her,” she “refused” and “flopped back and forth.”

The actor was booked into the Horry County Jail on Jan. 2 on $10,000 bail and released the next day, according to jail records viewed by Global News.

In February 2024, Brian was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

He was arrested shortly after 2 a.m. in California by La Quinta Sheriff's Department officers who were responding to a vehicle suspected of being involved in a traffic accident.

Officers observed “signs of impairment” in the driver, Brian, and arrested him on suspicion of drunk driving with a prior conviction. He was also charged with misdemeanor contempt of court.

In July 2023, Brian was arrested on suspicion of assault with serious bodily injury after police responded to a report of a physical struggle at his home in Oregon. A few months later, in October, he pleaded guilty to fourth-degree felony assault and, after striking a plea deal, was sentenced to one week in jail and 36 months of supervised probation.

In his ruling, the judge ordered that he “must not have any contact with the victim without the permission of his probation officer, must not treat alcohol or drug abuse problems as directed by his probation officer, and must not consume alcohol or drugs.”

In October 2020, he was arrested in Oregon on suspicion of assault, intimidation, harassment, coercion, strangulation, and obstruction of reporting after a fight with his girlfriend, Cartwright, and was charged with similar charges.

Although the most serious charges were dropped in 2020, he pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of menacing and fourth-degree assault and was sentenced to three years of probation.

Speaking about his arrest to The Hollywood Reporter in June 2023, he said, “At the end of the day,[police]throw a ton of charges at you because they want you to eventually plead something… I could have fought back… but it's more stress and drama. I had two misdemeanors and I'm done with it.”

In 2020, he was also arrested for drunk driving, making it his fourth drunk driving offense since 2004.

Brian has seven children with his ex-wife and Cartwright.
