Humanity is approaching $3 billion to $5 billion in funding, with large language model developers valued at $170 billion, Bloomberg reported.
Iconiq Capital is leading this funding, but there is a possibility that a second lead investor will take part in the transaction. The company is also in talks with the Qatar Investment Bureau, Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, and GIC.
If confirmed, the deal will almost triple the artificial valuation, which received a $3.5 billion valuation of $3.5 billion, after a $3.5 billion funding round announced in March, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. Other participants in the final round of startups include Bessemer Venture Partners, Cisco Investments, D1 Capital Partners, Fidelity Management & Research Company, General Catalyst, Jane Street, Menlo Ventures, and Salesforce Ventures.
Despite humanity's mission as a safety-oriented AI model developer, the company's CEO, Dario Amodei, recently confessed in a note to employees reported by Wired.
To meet the massive capital requirements of AI models development, the company is forced to turn its eyes to the Middle Eastern capital.
“Unfortunately, I think 'bad people should not benefit from our success' is a rather difficult principle to run a business,” Amodai wrote in a leaked memo.
Humanity did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
