NDP's Singh Pledge to Hire 35,000 Nurse by 2030 – National

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh is committed to supporting Canada's struggling healthcare system by hiring 35,000 nurses by 2030.

Appearing at the election event in Toronto on Monday, Singh also promised to ensure safe working conditions for nurses and the appropriate ratio between nurses and patients.

He had not said what the ratio was, but a party spokesman said the NDP government would work with the states and territories.

Singh called on the use of private nursing institutions by the state government, claiming that it is creating a two-tier system and pledged better compensation for nurses in the public system.

Healthcare staffing is the state's responsibility, but the party said it will link new federal health transfers to employment and retention strategies.

Last month, the Canadian Nurse Association called on all parties to commit to establishing a national licensing framework to provide nurses with flexible working where they need it most.
