Nick Carter faces new sexual assault allegations in a lawsuit alleging that he sexually assaulted a woman and gave her a sexually transmitted disease (STI) that led to cervical cancer.

In a lawsuit filed last week in Nevada, a woman named Laura Penley alleges she met Carter in late 2004 when she was 19 years old.

She claims she asked the Backstreet Boys singer to wear a condom, and he “rejected” and told her that he was “pretty” from STI, according to her submission. (Global News does not independently view legal documents.)

Penley says before Carter, now 45, she has never had unprotected sex with anyone, according to the lawsuit.

She claims she went to Carter's apartment in early 2005 and wanted to watch a movie with him. Her lawsuit alleges that Carter “said her no for the only reason she had sex.”

The lawsuit alleges that the sexual assault occurred “forced” in his bed.

Carter is said to have “failed to use protection to prevent spread of sexually transmitted diseases.”

Penley says he was told to keep the attack a secret, as no one believes her anyway. However, a few months later, Carter was told he had apologized and she went to see him again. According to the lawsuit, she alleges that she was sexually assaulted the second time.

The woman alleges that Carter is “a plaintiff who has been infected with a variety of sexually transmitted diseases, including the human papillomavirus (commonly known as HPV), a sexually transmitted disease known to cause health problems such as cervical cancer.”

After a doctor's visit in July 2005, it was said that he tested positive for chlamydia and go disease, just like cancerous cells.

By August 2005, Penley was “diagnosed with stage 2 cervical cancer and had to undergo a lot of treatment,” according to the lawsuit.

Penley claims he has addressed “serious emotional distress, physical distress, medical issues, intimacy issues and other complicated traumas” following the alleged diagnosis and assault.

She is seeking damages in excess of $15,000 and is seeking a ju trial.

Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys has been accused of rape by members of girl group Dream

“It takes deep courage and resilience to move forward publicly to pursue justice, especially in the music industry, which has long cultivated a wide-ranging environment of sexual exploitation,” Penny's lawyer, Gianna N. Elliott, said in a statement.

“Carter used his power, status and fame to sexually abuse and assault multiple young women and avoid accountability. The lawsuit aims to change that pattern,” Elliot continued.

“We hope that Laura receives justice and that this lawsuit will serve as a catalyst and empower other survivors to speak up and explain their abusers,” Elliott concluded.

Carter denied Penley's accusations. His lawyers, Liane K. Wakayama and Dale Hayes, Jr., are called “nonsense from a co-conspirator gang and their lawyers who continue to abuse the judicial system in an attempt to ruin Nick Carter.”

“It was drawn from the same predictable playbook. We've been waiting decades before Carter celebrates the professional milestone, and then hides behind the privilege of the lawsuit, trying to do the greatest damage to Nick and his family, making completely false claims,” his lawyer said in a statement.

Carter's lawyers claim that the singer cannot recall meeting Penile.

“He certainly had no romantic or sexual relationships with her,” they said.

A woman was killed by a stray bullet while waiting at a bus stop in Hamilton, Ontario.

In the legal filing, the woman identified solely asserted that Carter sexually assaulted her multiple times in 2003, when Carter was 22 and 23. She claimed that Carter raped her in another example on a Florida yacht and boat, and sexually assaulted her on a bus.

In one instance, AR claimed that Carter provided her drugs and alcohol at a party on a boat in October 2003.

AR also claimed she had signed HPV from Carter.

She sued him for sexual battery, intentional infringement of emotional distress, and negligence infringement of emotional distress.

She was the third woman to file a lawsuit of this nature against the Backstreet Boys Star.

Two other women, Shannon Ruth and Melissa Schuman, accusing Carter of rape and sexual assault. Ruth said Carter raped her when she was 17.

In February 2023, Carter submitted a countersuit and rejected both women's claims. He called Ruth and Schumann “opportunists” and used the #MeToo movement to “defame and slander” him for financial gain.

As part of the previous lawsuit, Ruth said Carter invited her to the tour bus after a concert in Tacoma, Washington when she was 17. She claims that Carter gave her alcohol and forced her to have oral sex before he raped her. Ruth also claimed she had signed HPV from Carter.

In 2017, Schuman, a former member of the Girls Group Dream, accused Carter of sexually assaulting her at the age of 18.

Schumann said he was sexually assaulted and raped in an apartment in Santa Monica, California in 2003 after Carter gave her a sedative. At the time, Carter (22 at the time) and Schuman (18 at the time) were colleagues filming the thriller film The Hollow.

In August 2024, Carter filed a $2.5 million countersuit against Schumann for honorific loss and interference in a future business contract after filing a lawsuit against him in April 2023 for sexual assault and battery.

According to a Rolling Stone report, Carter said through his lawyer that Schumann's lawsuit lost $2.5 million in business partnership deals with Meundies, VRBO, Roblox and The Children's Place. Carter also said that ticket sales for the show have slowed down as a result of the lawsuit, resulting in less profits.

Carter's countersuit claimed he was “mistakenly accused” of cheating by Schumann, who “has a craving for internet connection.” His lawsuit alleges that Carter and Schuman had “frivolous” dynamics before they had consensual sex in 2003.

Carter has never faced criminal charges in connection with these allegations.
