RAM cancels plans for all electric pickup trucks

Ram cancels plans for all electric pickup trucks

The Stellantis 'RAM 1500 Revolution Battery Electric Concept Pickup Truck was introduced on January 5, 2023 at Venetian Resort Las Vegas in 2023 CES by Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavaras in 2023.

Stellantis'The RAM brand is canceling plans to develop a full-size electric RAM 1500 pickup truck, citing slowing demand for electric vehicles.

“As demand for full-size battery trucks slows in North America, Stellantis will reevaluate its product strategy and halt development of full-size BEV pickups,” a company spokesperson said in a statement Friday using the acronym for battery-electric vehicles industry.

Stellantis had already delayed plans for the truck twice, which was originally expected to be available for sale by the end of 2024.

Ram said on Friday it plans to launch an extended range electric truck equipped with a generator and a gas engine. The truck is scheduled to be released next year.

The company said it would change the range track, which was expanded from “Ramcharger” to “Ram 1500 Rev.”

The change comes when Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis, who didn't leave the automaker late last year, began an aggressive shift in his struggling brand.

New Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa dialed some of the initiatives of former CEO Carlos Tavares and pledged in late July to make “the tough decisions needed to reestablish profitable growth and improve the results that have improved significantly.”

The entire automotive industry is dealing with slower adoption than expected for electric vehicles. The Trump administration also aims to rewind many of former President Joe Biden's initiatives, moving the auto industry away from internal combustion engines that foul gas and canceling tax credits to buy EVs.
