Senbaran, Indonesia – Indonesian rescuers recovered the bodies of a Brazilian hiker who died after falling from a volcanic ridge on Wednesday, officials said.
Juliana Mullins, 26, fell on Mount Linyani on Lombok. The search took at least five hours due to rocky steep terrain and foggy weather.
“This stretcher takes quite a long time,” said Mohammad Syafii, head of Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency.
Indonesian authorities confirmed her death on Tuesday after rescuers arrived, and were found using a thermal drone after a four-day intensive search, complicated by body and weather.
Millions of Brazil followed rescue operations. Indonesian authorities and rescue teams met with Mullins' family and explained the process.
“It turns out that the family is very accepting of the situation and circumstances they faced,” Syafii said.
Mount Rinjani, Indonesia's second most tallest peak, is a popular destination for trekkers.
