We warn that some Hello Fresh meals may contain listeria-contaminated spinach – National

We warn that some hello fresh meals may contain listeria contaminated

Federal health officials warned people late Monday not to eat certain Hello Fresh subscription meals that contain spinach that could be contaminated with Listeria.

The U.S. Farm Bureau has issued a public health warning for meals produced by San Clemente, California-based FreshRealm.

This product contains 10.1 oz containers of hello fresh ready-made meals. Both were shipped directly to consumers.

Pork pepper pasta is identified by the establishment number EST. 47718 and lot code 49107 or EST. 2937 and lot code 48840. Peppers that are not stuffed with turkey flocks are identified by EST. P-47718 and lot code 50069, 50073, or 50698.

Global News asked Canada's food inspection agency whether it also receives Listeria Reports related to Hello Fresh Meals distributed in Canada and whether it would issue a similar warning.

The issue was discovered when FreshEalm notified USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service. Spinach was provided by SNO PAC Foods, Caledonia, MN, through supplier Del Mar Foods, Watsonville, CA.

The listeria strain detected is not consistent with any known outbreak and no illnesses have been reported, Fresh Realm officials said in a statement.

Last month, Fresharealm said tests confirmed that the pasta used in linguine dishes sold at Walmart contained the same strain of Listeria linked to the June outbreak. The outbreak, originally tied to Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo, has killed at least four people and sickened 20, with the latest illness reported on September 11th.

FreshRealm officials said genetic testing found an outbreak strain of Listeria in a sample of pasta made and supplied by Nate's Fine Foods of Roseville, California.

Several additional companies, including Kroger, Giant Eagle, and Albertson's, recalled pasta salads and other dishes made with Nate's Fine Foods products due to potential Listeria contamination.

Listeria infections can cause serious illness, especially in older adults, people with weakened immune systems, pregnant women and newborns. Symptoms include fever, muscle pain, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions.

According to the CDC, about 1,600 people get sick from listeria infections and about 260 die each year. Federal officials in December said they were refining protocols to prevent Listeria infections after several high-profile outbreaks last year, including one linked to boar's head deli meat that led to 10 deaths and more than 60 illnesses.
