Why Summer 2025 is the “best storm for cheap flights”

Why summer 2025 is the "best storm for cheap flights"

June is round the corner, but if you're looking to book a summer trip, there are still a few deals.

Typically, the best summer airfare prices dry out between late May and early June, but 2025 is not becoming like most years.

“At this point this year, trying to make an affordable deal in July would be like (usually) finding diamonds in rough,” Going travel expert Katy Nastro tells CNBC that. Due to many factors, there are still major fares for travelers to find.

“It's like a perfect storm of all these different factors,” says Nastro. “People may be hesitant to book because there is some degree of economic uncertainty. There are more flights in the schedule. The fuel is also a bit less. That's like this complete, complete storm for really cheap flights.”

For travelers looking to book their last minute summer holidays, Nastro has one important advice. Flexibility is your best friend.

“If you're flexible, you're in a really great position,” she says. “Not just where you're going, but also at the timing. It'll be widely available on multiple dates. If you're trying to book something and haven't done so, August is your best target month.”

If you're looking for a summer destination that won't break your bank, travel experts have flagged five cities with lower than average prices spreading in the fall. Please take a look.

    1) Calgary, Alberta

What experts say: Inbound trips from Canada are 20% shy, so there are some natural summer fares to various destinations across Canada. One such place, Calgary (Lake Louise Trip?) has seen consistent and widespread availability. The average trading price starts with a round trip of $258, but from some cities, fares are as low as $142. The average price is $521 round trip, but it may fluctuate this summer so turn on flight alerts due to price drops.

    2) Sao Paulo, Brazil

Experts say: If you're looking for a less moisture and more comfortable vacation, head to the Southern Hemisphere. From big cities, the average trading price we saw is around $355, while from small cities it's a bit higher in the $699 range. The average price ranges from $600 to $1,000. The dollar is quite far away in Brazilian real and can be viable on most budgets.

    3) Dublin, Ireland

What experts say: Dublin is not the cheapest city to explore in Europe, but it certainly isn't the most expensive. Dublin is a great jumping point for exploring the nations' vast green landscapes, and is reasonably priced to get there this year. From most major cities, there is still the availability of summer summer to Dublin, where Dublin sits between $300 and $400, with all cities sitting on round trips with an average trading price of $511. The average price goes up to an area of over $954, but with additional routes added to the larger and medium-sized Emerald Isle of cities such as Cleveland, Indianapolis and Nashville, it's much more available this year, not the Irish luck.

    4) San Jose del Cabo, Mexico:

What experts say: Some people may avoid Mexico in the summer months. The average trading price for Mexican coastal cities like San Jose del Cabo is in the round-trip range of $354, but was seen as low as $292 from Austin. The average price is round trip of $640 or more, which means you save about 45% off. And given the fact that you can get direct flights from major cities on the east coast to Cabo, travelers in the area can enjoy a beach vacation that is free from hurricane risk in July and August.

    5) New England:

Experts say: The Northeast really shines in the summer, and outside the city it goes up to Rhode Island, a variety of pebbles on Connecticut's southern coast, outside of the city, up to Rhode Island, and until you reach Maine. The average trading prices for various New England cities, such as Bangor, Boston, and Hatford (this is just a starting point), sit on a roundtrip of $149. The average price for various New England cities is round trips of over $351, meaning that you can see a savings of less than 60%. Most people go outside the city and attack the coast, but one tip is to enjoy the mountains and lakes of Vermont and New Hampshire, perfect for skiing!
